Crew: Leslie Kay Norman (42 years old), ten years sailing experience in the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and Victoria. 50 ton USGS Coast Guard Captain’s license completed in April 2004. Live- aboard for the past eight years. I want to sail to Hawaii because I want to take my sailing skills to the next level (by becoming an off-shore sailor) and because Ace has provided this wonderful opportunity. I am excited about this adventure and I appreciate all the support I am receiving from friends and family.
Captain: Carolyn “Ace” Spragg (47 years old), almost 40 years sailing experience – my Dad taught me to sail on the Chesapeake Bay. I started teaching sailing 30 years ago at summer camp. Waterfront Director at Camp Wayne for Girls for 20 years. Moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest in 2000, bought a sailboat in 2001. Live-aboard s/v “Fraid Knot”since 2003. Excited to have a blue water sailing experience with good friends who share my love of the sea. I’ve always wanted to see what it feels like to discover the world at 6 knots.

Crew: Jude Rosenberg (56 years old), 4 years sailing experience in the Puget Sound area and 15 years experience sea kayaking. Lived aboard and sailed a 39 foot sloop in Tahiti as crew for four months. Excited to have the opportunity to experience first hand the blue water sailing life I’ve heard so much about and test my knowledge. I’m still following my life philosophy of experiencing as many new challenges and situations as I can for as long as I can. I can learn to knit when I’m older.
Crew: Sharon Dale (of Vail). Same age as Ace, except when it’s convenient to be younger. Was a waterfront camp counselor at age 16 and taught swimming and sailing with Ace at Girl Scout camp. Outdoor Education Leader, Vail Ski School Instructor extraordinaire, Vail Mountain Rescue…the list of certifications and awards is long and impressive!! Veteran of many week-long boat trips with husband Rob and old friend Ace…both on Lake Powell and in the Puget Sound aboard Fraid Knot.
